Practice

Before I start today's article, I'll love to chip in a little dedication to my lovely younger brother whose birthday's today! Mr. Creative - Lanre Alao: You are blessed beyond measure In Jesus Name, keep shinning!!

Okay, Let's proceed:

"One surefire way to become a more effective learner is to simply keep learning"
 - Tolu Alao

Learning, like I love to say, is an art! It’s something that can be developed or better still that should be developed. It’s a skill and just like any skill, to become better at it, do it again and again.

For instance, according to a 2004 Nature article it was reported that people who learned how to juggle increased the amount of gray matter in their occipital lobes (the area of the brain associated with visual memory). When these individuals stopped practicing their new skill, this gray matter simply vanished.

So if you're learning a new language, it is important to keep practicing the language in order to maintain the gains you have achieved.

This "use-it-or-lose-it" phenomenon involves a brain process known as "pruning", which simply means whatever you use continuously remains and whatever you disuse you lose!

If you want the new information you’ve just learned to stay put, keep practicing and rehearsing it.

For many of us, learning typically involves reading textbooks, attending lectures or doing research in the library or on the Web.

While seeing information and then writing it down is important, actually putting new knowledge and skills into practice can be one of the best ways to improve learning.
If you are trying to acquire any new skill or ability, focus on gaining practical experience.

If it’s a sport or athletic skill, perform the activity on a regular basis.

If you are learning a new language, practice speaking with another person and surround yourself with immersive experiences.

If it’s software, look for ways to put it to practical use.

The logic is simple, do it over and over again till it enters your subconscious.
Of course, learning isn’t a perfect process. Sometimes, we forget the details of things that we have already learned.

This is where practice comes in as it solidifies and establishes whatever you’re learning. Every time you practice you get better at it!

Remember, to become more effective at learning, simply just keep learning! Keep doing! Keep practicing!

Stay Tuned!
