THE PLEASURE OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

on Friday, 9 January 2015

How is it that some people can work for 18 hours a day and not feel tired whereas some others work for 6 hours and just want to get out? The answer is pretty obvious, right? The former derives pleasure from their work which is not the case for the latter.

Pleasure is enjoyment or satisfaction derived from doing something. When you enjoy doing something, how long you spend doing it doesn’t really matter. If there was nothing else to do in the world you would keep doing what gives you the most pleasure.
Specifically speaking, there’s at least one thing that gives you pleasure. Just the thought of it right now makes you smile :). For instance, watching a ‘good’ movie is very pleasurable to some people (movie-lovers) whereas making a ‘good’ movie is very pleasurable to some other group of people (filmmakers – directors, cinematographers etc).
Generally speaking, there’s one single thing that seems to give everybody pleasure – being responsible for someone’s pleasure. In other words, people are happy when they know that someone is happy because of them.
People derive pleasure from knowing and seeing that they are part of making another person delighted. It’s more pronounced if someone you love is involved.
One of the things personal development assures you is the opportunity to give more pleasure to others thus giving you more pleasure. You are more equipped to help other people. I believe this is one of the greatest motivation to develop one’s self.
When you realize how much joy you will bring to the world when you develop yourself, how long or how much you spend to develop yourself doesn’t really matter.
