WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?

on Sunday, 28 April 2013

For some time now, I have wondered what most lecturers or teachers think they are doing. It's very easy to differentiate lecturers who know what they are saying and those who just recite what they've heard or read. If learning must make sense, teaching must also make sense! It's imperative that teachers deliver effectively to enhance the whole learning process.

Yes! Learners have a role to play, as a matter of fact a major role. We must work on the 'sending' end as well as the 'receiving' end. In recent times I have being asking teachers this question: WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? Don't come to our class to read a note or slide, we can also read!  The fact is, if you are not convinced about what you are saying, it shows! We can see it! We are not blind! What are YOU saying?

Research now suggest that we learn best from teachers who exude passion and enthusiasm about what they teach. Bottom line is, the future development of education in Nigeria and the world  at large depends on the engagement of teachers who are passionate about what they teach, teachers who are what they teach, teachers who teach what they live and do! Not teachers who see teaching as just a job, not teachers who are 'stuck' in the system, not teachers who are just teaching because nothing else seems feasible.

I see a future where MOST teachers are full of passion and enthusiasm.  We need teachers who know WHAT THEY ARE SAYING!
